Our Amazing Speakers

image002Sara De Nino Paone – Co Founder & Educational Director of The OWL Institute for Dentistry (Keynote Speaker)

Sara De Nino Paone, started her career as a dental assistant in 1985. Working with a forward-thinking dentist, Sara learned about hygiene, dentistry and the dental business. She learned about the standard of periodontal health needed to support dental work and was a treatment coordinator before such a role was common. The turning point for Sara was when she became inspired at a course on Soft Tissue Management (STM). The course was one of the first of its kind to discuss the science of oral- systemic links; links that showed her the broader impact of dental care on the health of her patients. She decided that day to become a Dental Hygienist.

What began as an inspirational afternoon gave way to a twenty year career that has been defined by evolution and innovation. Sara works collaboratively with dentists to construct comprehensive treatment plans for patients and helps provide new patient experiences that address not only oral but overall health. She conducts comprehensive periodontal exams and incorporates adjunctive screening tools for biofilm assessments to motivate patients to support their own oral health. All the while, Sara continues to invest in her ability to treat her patients through continually upgrading the technology in her offices and through her own continued education and research. sara-article-thumbSara believes that raising her patients’ awareness of the importance of their oral health is the best way to motivate them to take charge of their own care.

In the last seven years, Sara has expanded her impact on patients’ lives through her consulting work. As a co-founder the Oral Wellness Learning (OWL) Institute in Dentistry, a teaching institute based in Oakville at The Dental Learning Centre. Sara inspires dental teams to help them make a shift toward considering themselves key contributors to the healthcare profession. Sara is highly accomplished at implementing systems & protocols, conducting advanced technology training, and teaching effective communications skills. Sara has seen practices – and teams – transformed through her coaching, and looks forward to working with your team to customize and implement an STM system that is right for your unique practice dynamics.
